EXPLORING THE UNKOWN AND LAUNCHING MY PODCAST
I finally launched my podcast in June after a year of going back and forth. I knew in 2018 when I first began listening to podcasts that I had wanted to create one. I had fallen in love with so many shows but had yet to find one that combined both working within the film industry and self-care. That’s when I decided that I could be the one who creates my version of what that show would look like. I figured I’ve been working in the industry for a while and I am always exploring what self care and self love looks like so why not create my own?
These thoughts would remain just thoughts for the next 8 plus months as a result of my own paralyzing fear. I was very concerned with what other people thought because I don’t have fancy equipment or a large fan base. I was inhibited by events that hadn’t even occurred.
Back in June when I attended the American Black Film Festival where I was surrounded by those who had actualized their dreams or those in pursuit of it, it had given me a push of inspiration. I looked around and saw that there was nothing separate between me and those that were receiving accolades and awards. The only difference is that they gave themselves a chance to step out on faith to write a script or to produce a project. I knew the time for me to explore the unknown was now. By exploring the unknown, the worst thing that could happen is that I would learn. I would learn what works and what doesn’t work, and the best thing that could happen is that I could improve. I needed to bet on myself and the only time I have is now. It was time for me to put fear in the back seat and allow my courage to drive.
